GENEVA CONGRESS.
BATTLE FOR COMMITTEE REPRESENTATION. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received 5.5 p.m., June 19. LONDON, June 18. The Australian Press Association’s special correspondent at Geneva states: “The Conference is making very slow progress. The system of bloc nomination and voting is holding up .the work.” A meeting of the Government group of South Americans, submitted a bloc of- names for election to the Anthrax Committee. The Australians drew attention to the absence of a Commonwealth representation in the bloc. The futility of carrying on under such conditions is tantamount to the suppression of rights of those desiring representation. The group agreed to individual nomination and a secret ballot, Australia receiving fifty-one votes of a total of fifty-eight. M. Curtain and M. Thomas objected to the same system in their group. Both were elected to the Anthrax Committee, giving Australia triple representation. Ail Australian was also elected to the Night-baking Committee. The Italians threaten to withdraw unless they are admitted to tne deliberations of the Grand Committee. The Labourites oppose this claim on the ground that the Fascist organisations do not fulfil the terms of part XIII. of the Versailles Treaty. They are being pressed to reconsider their objection.
