Ray (an Ameriqan) escaped from the bandits during ah unguarded moment, while a heavy rainstorm swept the mountains, and after travelling all night reached Chiuping, to which a Chinese gunboat was despatched to assist the missionaries, and ‘ brought him to Wuchow.
