OSCAR ASCHE AND “THE FIRM.’

There was a remarkable scene a! Oscar Asche’s farewell appearance. Immediately the last lines were spoken the curtain was dropped, the National Anthem was played and the exit doors opened, but the audience sat unmoved. The orchestra commenced anothei number. Then Mr Asche stepped on the stage, accompanied by Miss Champion. Mr Asche pointed to the orchestra and said: “They will not let me speak.” Miss Champion jumped into the orchestra and snatched tilt baton from th econductor’s hand. Mr Aselie then made a speech referring to his relations W'ith the management. Sir George Tallis subsequently in formed the press that the Asche season had resulted in heavy losses to the firm, and a settlement of certain claims Was pending. He regretted that M: Asche had attempted to ventilate liis grievances before the curtain.
