Half yearly telephone subscriptions must be "paid” by noon on Friday, 20th instant, otherwise defaulters will be disconnected and a tec of 5s charged for restoring the service. The ex-pupils of the secondary department of Geraldine District High School, are to meet in the Parish Hall, on Wednesday evening of next week, to form a club. The idea is a good one, and should be very popular as so many old pupils have desued to join in with the social gatherings ot the High School. Wanganui lias been gazetted a -lit' and the proclamation to this eftect will take effect as from Ist July. The Amalgamation of Goiiville and Castlec.iti with Wanganui has increased the population of the united borough to over 20,000, thus bringing the area, within the definition of a city as laid down in the Municipal Corporations Act, IJ-0. A humorous application of the Principle of camouflage that of the woild of beasts and flowers, was made l:y Professor J. C. Johnston in tho_ course of an address on *‘Colour in Nature at Auckland. The lecturer explained the working of the principle of camouflage in the animal world, and dwelt on its use to man in war time, when uniforms, guns, and ships were all camouflaged, and even horses were painted green in the war zone. Another application of the principle was shown in the use of cosmetics, powder, lip-salve, eye-enlarging drops, continued the speaker. These were all rheaiit to be attractive, but to all save the unsophisticated they merely acted as a warning. Gramophone enthusists are looking forward to next Thursday evening at the Wesley Hall, Church Street, when Begg’s invitation recital eventuates.
