HELP FOR THE NEEDY.
COAL AND BLANKET DAY. Yesterday was Coal and Blanket Day, and the ladies’ committee of the Mayor's Coal and Blanket Fund organiser! a band of collectors, with headquarters at several of the vantage points of Stafford Street. In spite of tho wintry conditions prevailing, the town was crowded with people, all of whom responded readily to the appeal for the needy. Collectors were everywhere. and it is due wholly to their efforts that the splendid sum of £250 was collected. The following are the names of those in charge of stalls, and tho takings of their respective stations :—Woollcombe Street, Miss Hoklgate, £42 12s lid; Gabites’ corner, Mrs Mason, £53 12s 8d; Arcade. Miss Fussell, £46 2s lid; Empire corner, Mrs F. Raymond, £67 18s Id: Hydro corner, Mrs TJnwin, £4l 9s lid.'
