DREADED CANCER.

SCIENCE SEEKING REMEDY.

The- announcement is made of a new chemical formula which has cured 40 per cent, out of 400 cases of cancer, by Pr. Everett Field, of the Radium Institute, New York. The formula is based on the theory that cancer is a germ disease. ’ The "formula was developed because x-ray, radium and other previously known treatments are inadequate. The new preparation is known as Kech serum.

Dr. - Field stated they were not heralding an absolute cancer cure. It had been used only in clinical cases, but he regards it with high hope. He said the Glover serum of the Toronto physician; should also be watched carefully.

The Melbourne Health Department has cabled the Australian Commissioner -at New York asking-him to investigate-immediately the reported discovery of a cure for cancer by Dr. Glover.-' r ~ .Mr Bruce /(Prime , Minister) states the Federal' Government will spare no \ efforts to ascertain the merits of Dr. Glover’s methods' and research.

Medical circles are not impressed with Dr. Glover’s reported discovery that cancer is due to a microbe. They declare that the life history of cancer so far'as is known is inconsistent with Dr. Glover’s claim. None of the pre vioiis claims that it is caused bydifferent parasites had stood the tests. The' claini- is regarded as a big one, and positive proof is required before it is-accepted. ’ At the same time, doctors express hone that the cause of the disease ; ’and the remedy have beeu discovered. If so, research of the futunwill have to ’ be made -in an entirely new direction.
