(From Our Own Correspondent.)

FOOTBALL. At Victoria Park yesterday a trial i match Possioles (white), v. Probables ■ (blue), was played. Tlic weather was bitterly cold, and showery, and after tne second spell commenced, tlic gamo was abandoned, -owing to a heavy downpour. South Canterbury selectors were present, but witnessed a poor exhibition of Rugby. D. Keyes and B. Walker, live-eigntlis and wing threequarter respectively, for the Probables, were the outstanding players. The latter notched three tries. The Whites kicked oil, and Foley forced. Hodges took a high kick, and beat several opponents, but hung on too long. F. Smith failed to stop a Blue rush and kicked out of bounds. Garland secured from a scrum and passed to Hodges, who gained ground for the Possibles. S. Smith followed his own kick, and caught Hansen in possession, and the Blues were in trouble, but a timely force eased matters. Tho Dlues attacked, but J. Stewart removed play to past halfway, where front a line-out. F. Smith, set the- White backs in motion. The ball travelled out to Jones on the wing, who was pulled down in possession. Collins picked up front the loose, but sent out a poor pass. A short-passing bout among the Blue .backs took play to Possibles territory, and after give and take play, Hansen sent the ball out to Keyes, to O’Connor, whose pass went astray. A free to the Blues near half way was mulled by Dowber, and the Probables looked dangerous. Tlie White forwards cleared—but the Blues returned .to tho attack, compelling tlie Whites to force. From a line out at half-way, Hansen sent the Blue backs away, but the ball went out near tlie line. A similar movement saw C. Stewart throw a wild pass. The Blues continued to toss the ball about, and Foley ■made a fine dash before lie was grassed. Hansen took a kick from C. Stewart, but was pulled down before getting a pass away. Jones fielded a kick from Lundon, and contred near j liis opponent’s goal. C. Stewart clear- j ed with a good run. Walker picked up ' in midfield, and made a fine dash into the White’s territory, where Eathorno made a determined effort to score. A penalty brought relief to the Whites, i Hansen opened up play from a line- ; out, and the ball went to O’Connor, who sent a frightful pass. The Blues were penalised and Jones had an un- j successful shot at goal. A promising movement by the White backs was , spoilt by a faulty transfer. Half-time : . 60unded with play in mid-field. In the second half several changes in the teams were made. Following tlie kick-off the Blue forwards heeled from a scrum, but bad handling by the backs spoilt a likely chance. Their forwards, however, dribbled towards the White’s line, and from tight play Meehan 'picked up, and scored well out. Walker failed to convert. Probables 3, Possibles 0. From a scrum •Smith sent the ball to : Keyes, to C. Stewart, who gathered in at full speed and , mad© a nice opening. O’Connor failed to hold his pass. An exchange of kicks ended in favour of the Whites. (At this stage steady rain began to fall.) Walker picked up in tho. Whites 25, and scored a good try. Probables 6, Possibles 0. Shortly! afterwards Keyes gained possession, and with a tricky run carried play info tlie White territory, where Walker again scored.
