POWER BOARD POLICY.
To the Editor of the ‘‘Timaru Herald.” Sir,—Throughout South Canterbury the resentment against and criticism of the Power (?) Board is universal; they have satisfied nobody, the aver age citizen, whatever, his views may be on the question of rival sources ot power, holds tlie Power Board in contempt and expresses himself with emphasis on the matter. Immediately upon the defeat of their policy at the recent loan poll the members of tho Power Board should have handed m their resignations; during their grotesque campaign before their defeat thev often threatened to do' so. 11 local government in this district is not to be reduced to the level ot tammany control, more respect must be shown for publish wish and sentiment. When a public bodv is placed in a humiliating position—their temper becomes vindictive and dangerous as we have seen in the ease of the Geraldine sec tional poll a blatant example ot back-stair politics. This was a most scandalous exhibition ot a mmonty ot money and rating value forcing an objectional issue upon the inoie lesponsible section of the ratepayers. The same policy of attrition is being carried on by the Board all over tlio sub-province.—'Waimate is to be cut off from its mother country Timaru is being isolated and the whole power area disintegrated. During the whole of its somnolent existence, the Board has failed to grasp the most elementary fact of the matter in hand. The general opinion is that they have well earned a rest. I don't tlnnlc the meeting on Thursday can be much g° od we let the matter drift too long no will TIMARU.
