TEKAPO POWER
To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald. Sir,—l wish endorse the statements which have been matte irom time to time through the medium of your journal, as to the present unsatislactory arrangement with regard to our supply of electrical power. On the one hand wc have the doubtful benefit of a supply dependent upon tho long line ol communication, subject to frequent interruptions,, and offering slight promise of being able to meet the requirements of the big future wo all anticipate for South Canterbury. On the other hand a compact scheme, and an easily accessible source ot supply in Tekapo. awaits development, and wc have tho opinion of experts that such development is in every way a .sound proposition. ft is evident nowadays that in a community such as our “progress ’ and “electric power” go hand in hand, and 1 am convinced that the great majority of South Canterbury residents are in favour of progress and the Tekapo scheme. I feel certain that such an amount of enthusiasm will be displayed at the forthcoming public meeting as will impress the powers that be with the urgent necessity; of carrying out the wishes ol the majority, and proceeding with the investigation of the Tekapo scheme.
