To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald.-’ cj r —\s a recent arrival in lima, a, 1 have, hoard some very heated discussions regarding the extension of . : n electric light and power scheme t has occurred to me that few of the residents have had an opportunity cl knowing the value of dependable and cheap power to the farmer. I had an opportunity of seeing in actual practice on a dairy farm in Ohio, t.a.A., what an inestimable advantage a ieliablo supply of electric current meant to a farmer. On. the farm m question two voting men milked, and otherwise attended to, 60 cows, all kept indoors for the long winter season, some six months, fed, watered, and milked. How could it have been done without the aid of the electric current ? The farmer’s house was lighted, heated by electricity, the meals were cooked by the same means, the saving of time and the prevention of the drudgery of house work was a real advantage, the women folk had all their afternoons free for social matters, no lamps to trim, no firewood to got in, no dirt in the'house, light available at any hour, and a thousand and one advantages which could only be appreciated if "experienced.—l am, etc..
