“PAIR OF CUTTHROATS.”
THE CHICAGO BOY MURDERERS.
By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. NEW YORK, June 8.
In reply to many newspaper innuendoes that their millions will be used to set the boys Leopold and Loeb free, the fathers of the boys have published a statement declaring that they will not take advantage of riches to defeat the ends of : justice.
They add: “We have asked a committee of the Chicago Bar Association to select our counsel and fix the fees, which will be those usually paid. Medical experts are also engaged under similar conditions. >lf the' Courts find our sons not mentally responsible, wc can give an undertaking to place them where they will no longer be a menace to any community.” '; Among hundreds of letters received daily at the gaol where the boys are held, the most notable - one, addressed to the Leopold Loeb Company, says: “You have no cause foi worry.’ You are in a ‘ country' where justice is measured by wealth and slick attorneys. You will get away. You are as miserable a pair of cutthroats as ever travelled the Spanish Main. With ,a bag.of; gold, expert testimony and a spineless American jury you will make a mockery oijustice.”
