Miss Ada Reeve, of the Aladdin Company, will arrive to-day from the north and will stay at the Grosvenor. The Hon. AV. Downie Stewart, Minister of Customs, passed through Tim aril by the north bound epress yesterday.
Mi- P. R. Higgins, a well-known Sydney barrister, and one of the directors of the Australian Provincial Assurance Assn., Ltd., is at present visiting New Zealand in company with Mra Higgins and their young, daughter.
Members of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce at a special luncheon, made reference to the projected departure of the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoc, and expressed deep regret that His Excellency was vacating an office in which he had endeared himseli to all the people, not only as a ruler but as a man. His retirement from the position was almost a calamity.. It was decided to prepare an appivpuat* 'minute, expressing the chamber s re—e,, and forward it to His Excellency.,
