KNIVES DRAWN.
COLOURED SEAMEN QUARREL. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, June. 6. As the result of an affray among the coloured seamen of the City of Birmimdiam, in which knives . were drawn, JoTm Joseph, a Cingalese, was charged this morning with assaulting AH Simile (bo’sun), and Haji Amat (bo’sun’s mate). It was stated that after a struggle between the latter and Joseph, accused caught his adversary by the throat, and drew a knife. Captain McKenzie asked that accused be detained in Dunedin till the Company’s next boat arrived. Accused was remanded in' custody for a week, the Magistrate remarking however, that the evidence did not warrant a conviction for assault.
