THE “SURE FOUNDATION.”
PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM AUCKLAND, Monday. Lord and Lady Jellieoe attended the annual luncheon to the King’s Empire Veterans by the Auckland Patriotic Association, and the Returned Soldiers’ Association. The Mayor presided. His Excellency said he thought that the King’s Empire Veterans would agree that if future generations carried on in the spirit that had been shown by the veterans, and the spirit that had been shown by the men in the late war, the Dominion and Empire would stand on a sure foundation. If in the troubles that confronted New Zealand (and other countries none the less), which he hoped were nearly over, that spirit were carried into the lives of the people, New Zealand would have a great future. It was no use. giving in when things were beginning to get difficult, and he did not believe that New Zealanders' were the people to so give in. Sir Henry Lauder said he believed the saviour of the World was the consolidation of the great British Empire. If the world knew and realised the British stood solid for everything that was good, kind and noble in humanity, there would be no one who would dare attack them.
