HUGE EARTHQUAKE.

Teheran reports that tremendous havoc was wrought by a violent earth, quake in the region of Turboliaidari, south-west of Meshed. The earthquake lasted for hours, causing the deaths of thousands of people, and devastated a large area. The cable is not clear whether it is the same earthquake as was cabled yesterday, but the Simla seismograph recorded two distinct earthquakes. (A cablegram received yesterday said—Considerable loss of life is reported near Meshed from a severe earthquake.) Disastrous results followed the earthquake at Tarbatikaidri. Six villages in the vicinity of the town were destroyed completely. The dead are estimated at 4000. Shocks are still being experienced in the devastated area. Medical aid lias been despatched, but it is feared that it will be of little avail.

The original disturbance lasted from 11 p.m. on Friday till 4 a.m. on Saturday.
