rugby union. ► — A special meeting of the Management Committee of the S.C.R.U.wvas held at 5 p.m. yesterday m Mr Fraser’s office. Present-—Messrs M. Houlihan, J. Waddell, S. H. V. Aspinall, Hugh Fraser, J. B. Ciowley, and J. V. McKeague (hon. sec.). In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr Crowley was voted to the chair. BUSINESS RULED OUT OF ORDER. The meeting had been called on tlie requisition of two members, who had given notice to move that the resolution be rescinded which ordered competition games to be played on Saturday next. The chairman related the. events which had led up to the position at the moment, and after ruling the motion out of order declared the meeting closed. Members disagreed with the ruling, and expressed the view that as representatives of the players tlie committee should consider the latter’s request, but the chairman said that the meeting was closed. ALL MATCHES POSTPONED. BY LATER MEETING. Notice was at once given for another special meeting, which was held at S o’clock, when the president (Mr H. H. Fraser) took the chair, and the following members were also present—Messrs V. Aspinall, J. Waddell, S. I-I. Sullivan, Hugh Fraser, and J. V. McKeague. Mr Houlihan was apologised for. In accordance with the notice of motion it was moved and seconded that the resolution ordering games to be carried' on on June 2 be rescinded. —carried. A further notice of motion was then dealt with—“ That no football be played on Saturday, June 2.” A telegram was received from the Waihi Club stating that its teams preferred that no games should be played this week. The motion was carried unani-. mously, members agreeing that the" almost general opinion of players that there was not a long enough interval between Saturday and the tournament should be respected.
At the Athletic Grounds on Saturday Main and Waimataitai will meet in the senior grade of the primary school championship, play beingtimed to commence at 2.30. Mr W. Gumming will referee. The following grounds have been allotted for clubs wishing to train on Saturday for tho tournament; Star, No. 2 Athletic; Zingari, No. 1 Athletic from 3.3 0 p.m.; Old Boys, Rectory; Celtic, Anzac Square. The South Canterbury Union has forwarded an emphatic protest against the action of the New Zealand Union in appointing the South Island selection committee without waiting for the receipt of South Canterbury’s nomination.
