BANDITS’ PRISONERS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT (Received 10 p.m.. May 31.) New York, May 31. Tlie Chicago Tribune’s Poking correspondent states that Major Allen, an American, and W. Smith, an aged Englishman yesterday were released by the bandits. The journalist Powell, who is now conducting negotiations with the bandits is hopeful of securing the release of tho remaining foreigners. Powell suggested to the bandits that they accept the payment of mouQy and a- guarantee ol employraont on Chinese public works, pointing out that the Foreign Powers could not guarantee incorporation of the bandit forces into tlie Chinese hr my.—A. ana N.Z.
