FARMER'S LITTLE BET
BUT NO “DIVVY.” PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM AUCKLAND, Thursday. At the Police Court to-day Reginald Renjamin, agecl 00, a labouier, and Trevor Leonard Richard Cunningham, a taxi-driver, were charged with having on April 18 obtained £22 from George Bavingtou Rowe by falsely representing that jTenjamin was a bookmaker. Complainant, a farmer near Pokeno, said that he arrived at Auckland on the morning of April 18, and had not known either of tho accused before that day. Ho hired Cunningham’s taxi, and by him was introduced to the other accused who was described as a bookmaker, another name being given. Witness took a double on Scotch Mixture and Birkie for which he gave Benjamin r-i Ho also had a pound on Dean Dillon engaged at tho trots two days iator ’Jn an hotel accused advised complainant to have a lump on Quest, competing at tho Manawatu races that day. Witness gavo £2O by cheque on Quest. Later ho endeavoured lo stop payment, but was too late. Quest run second, but bo received no money. Accused, who both pleaded not guilty, reserved their defence, and were committed for trial. 111
