TAXATION
REDUCTION EXPECTED. One of the big subjocts of the coining session of Parliament .will be taxation. - Promises have boon macka that taxation will be reduced, and it has been said that £2,000,000 will bo taken oil the shoulders ol the payers (remarks the “New Zealand Times”). _ ! It may be remembered that in a ; speech some weeks ago, Sir Joseph Ward said .that taxation is so heavy hero that somo of the biggest concerns in the country have seriously considered transferring their business to Australia. ‘AVo have to remedy this,” he added, “because Now Zealand must come first. Wo can’t afford to allow this country to drift the wrong way. It is our common duty to remove somo of the shocking anomalies which exist. Wo have no right to continue war taxes now the war is over. The wholo of : the war legislation should have been ' repealed years ago. There is no souse in maintaining war legislation in times of peaco.’’
