TELEPHONE LINKS

IN TEMUKA ELECTORATE. ' ' ' MR. BURNETT’S TOUR. Mr T. D. Burnett, M. P. for Temuka, will he touring the Temuka electorate with Mr McDermott (Chief Telegraph Engineer for Canterbury), starting on Tuesday, March. 13. ' The object of the tour is to look into matters connected ’ with ! telephonic facilities throughout the district. Mr Burnett is anxious to meet all those who havb complaints to make, or who intend to connect up with the telephone, and/will be glad to receive communications during the next few days from those who have anything to say on the subject. Mr Burnett’s itinerary will be as follows: —Temuka between 10 and 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13; Winchester,, at 11.30 a.m. the same day to discuss the best method of securing telephonic communication direct with Timaru; Geraldine, at 1 p.m. the same day; Woodbury at 2.30 p.m.; Mt. Peel Station at 4 p.m. to meet the Rangitata Gorge settlers who are anxious to be connected with the' telephone. Wednesday, 14, Beautiful Valley at 9.30 a.m. to discuss with settlers the possibility of linking the gap between Beautiful Valley and Skipton, so as to make possible direct telephone communication with Geraldine; Fairlie at noon; Silverstream at 1.30 p.m. to meet settlers who are desirous of securing a night telephone service between Silverstream and Fairlie; Tekapo at 8.30 p.m. to meet the owners of Wolds, Maryhill, Irishman, Balmoral, Glenmore, and Godjey Peaks stations who are desirous' of having the Tekapo bureau turned into an exchange. In the evening at 8 o’clock, Pukaki, where it is hoped that all the soldier run-holders of Rhoborough and Ben Ohau will be present to discuss ways and means for connecting with Pukaki. On Thursday, March' 15, Mr Burnett will be pleased to receive deputations on the return journey to Timaru, at Albury at noon; Cave at 1.30 p.m., Point at 3 p.m., and if the Kakahu settlers so desire he will meet them at Kakahu School at 5 p.m.
