IRISH TROUBLES.

RAILWAY DAMAGE.

SOME BIG CLAIMS

By Cable—Proas Association—Copyright. LONDON, Januaiy 16.

As an indication of the damage done by the Rebels to tbe railways, tbe Great Southern and Western Companies have submitted claims amounting to £640,000. It is expected that they will reach £1,000,000 when the damage is fully assessed. Services over a wide area, including three important lines between Dublin and Cork, have been suspended. Late on Monday night, tbe Dublin Irregulars cameu out fierce attacks on Free State military posts. For an hour the crowded streets resounded to rifle and machine gun firing and bombing. The chref attacks were made against the City Hall and Collins Barracks. The garrisons returned the fire and drove off the attackers. At least eight were wounded, including pedestrians. The "‘Doily Mail’s” Dublin correspondent states. that the authorities have decided to'put •women Republicans on the same footing as men, withdrawing the exemption from search and detention if in possession of arms. This action follows a riot of 50 women political prisoners in Mount]oy, who, angered over the Governor’s manner of dealing with their complaints, destroyed everything breakable and heaved the remnants over the galleries. Force had to be used to restore order. , , • Tbe ringleaders were placed in solitary confinement.—A. and N.Z. Gable. _____
