IN THE INDUSTRIAL WORLD?
A recent issue of the London “Times” has an interesting article undir tL v.r, .* M.«*M**£ The point raised is whethei the peo pie of Great Britain were prepared to concentrate their attention upon tho economic problems of to-day, biiuttin o out the distractions of bygone conti oversv, and avoiding the prejudice or inherited fiscal faith, with the sole object of determining ivhat ought to bo the policy of the Mother Country now. The man who rummages in the Storehouse of political economy and prejudice to find support for any pohey whicli may or may not be justified at the time of its adoption, but bears no relation whatever to the conditions of to-dav, is an enemy of his race. Yv liat must s be done, to enable the Mother Country to hold her own m a wonii competition? International eomjieti tion for the markets of the world is hound to be intense which means that the nation in a position to sell abioaci, quality for quality, at a lower price than the others, is bound to wm. Great Britain is situated differently from some other countries, hhe* must import injemnse stores ot food anti raw materials, and t pay for these she must export the products ot the factories and mills. The advice given m the “limes quotation shows that wo must take a broad view of the position, and apply siicln rules to our policy of government as will meet our case to-day, not seeking any parallel in what is past. Consequently, to conduct a business of any description, it is .absolutely necessary to buy in the best markets, and to have first-class tradesmen to do the work. These two factors Mara Bros, possess, inasmuch as we .import all our own paints, glass and papers direct from Home and American markets, and a staff that is thoroughly proficient in every department of the painting trade.
