HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT,

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegrams, dated July 29 and 30 respectively, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London. Wool. —Sales closed last night. Good attendance of buyers throughout, especially from the Continent. During the series 4 0,400 bales of New Zealand free wool were offered aiid S 5 per cent. sold. B.A.W.R.A. catalogued a total of 73,112 hales, including 13,614 New Zealand, but during last week withdrew' 12,000 bales of descriptions least in demand, Large supply of crossbreds resulted in reduction in price; towards close this reduction caused better demand. Compared with last sale prices have declined from 7H per cent in case of coarse merinos to as much as 15 to 20 per cent, for coarse crossbreds. Average closing values were: GO/G4’s (merino), Is to Is 4d; 56’s (super J-bred) Is to Is 3d; 50’s fibred) 7Jd to 9Jd; 48,55. (fine crossbred) 6£d to Sd; 44/46’s (medium crossbred), Gd to 6 id; 36/40's (coarse crossbred), 43d to C:jd. Next series will open on August 30. Meat. —Market shows very little change. Demand continues for New Zealand lamb. Quotations are: New Zealand mutton, tendency weaker generally. Light-weight 73d to Sid, heavyweight 5Ad to Gld. New Zealand lamb, new season’s, Is to Is 2d; heavyweight little weaker at lid to Is. ' New Zealand beef, first-class quality ox, hinds 5d to 7d, fores 3id to 4Jd. Argentine chilled beef remains in fair demand. Hinds 9d to 10id, fores 4d to sd.

Butter. —Market quieter and quo- ' tations disclose weaker tendency. Horne supplies decreasing steadily, and very little Irish available at irregular prices. Danish in less demand at 260 s to 264 s per cwt, 2s 3:;d to 2s 4,'<d per lb. New Zealand first and second grade, 259 s to 26 2s per cwt, and 2s 3Jd to 2s 4d. Australian, demand quiet; first and second grade, 236 s to 2415, and 2s ljd to 2s lipl, occasionally 245 s and 2s 2.id. Free Australian, according u> grade, 220 s to 24 ss, and Is lli;d to 2s 2Jd.
