• CHMSTOHURGH, August 3. At' the national market held to-day, there was an outstanding entry ot special show beef and mutton, from South Otago, North Otago, Canterbury, and several lines from the NorUil island. The number of exceptionally prime steers exceeded that of previous years. The top beef price for show stock was £7O, others selling at £bd, £55, £SO, £45, and under. A record for the yard was established in fat sheep, four purebred 2-toothi Suffolk wethers making £l6 each. Other show wethers sold at £6, £4 lls, £4 Is, and hoggets up to £3 2s. Excluding the show sheep, the mutton yarding was particularly large, comprising about 16.000. Beef .was forward in average numbers. Store sheep. —An average yarding, and a poor sale except for good ewes, fairly good 2 and 4 tooth ewes in lamb sold at 20s Id, to 25a 4d fairly good 6 and 8 tooth 21s 4d to 22a 6d, ordinary 4, 6 and 8 toothi 16s 7d to 17s Bd, sound and failing mouthed ewes in lamb 13s to 17s, 2 and 4 tooth wetlhers 11s 2d to 13s lid, 4 and 6 tooth 11s Bdi to 14s lOd, owe hoggets 10s to 10s Sd, mixed sex 9s Id to 12s lid, wether 9s Id to 10s Bd. ' Fat sheep.—A record yarding and an easing iii prices. Prime wethers 19s to 31s. medium 16s to 18s 9d, inferior 14s to Ids 9d, prime ewes 17s to 225, medium 14s to 16s 9d, inferior 11s to 13s 6d, hoggets 11s to 18s 6d. ‘Fat cattle. —Prices advanced about 30s on the previous market. Extra prime steers £26, prime £ls to £l9 I0s ; medium £ll to £l4 10s, light inferior £7 to £lO 10s, extra prime heifers £lB 10s, .prime £lO to £l2, medium £7 10s to £9 10s, light inferior £6 lCs to £7 ss, prime cows £lO to £l4 10s, ordinary £6 15s to £9 15s; veaters showed a sharp rise, runners £6 10s, good vealers £5 to £5 10s, medium vealers £3 to £4, small vealers £1 to £2 2s 6d. BURNSIDE. DUNEDIN, August 3. ■ The yardings of sheep and lambs were very small at Burnside to-day. This, in all probability, was due to the facv that the local freezing companies had notified that killing operations had eased for the season. The offerings

met with a good demand, and slightly higher values were obtained. i’lga were also m short supply and this class of stock realised enhanced values. Fat cattle were iu moderate supply, anu when the sale closed, prices were 10s to 20s in advance of those ruling last week.

Fat Cattle.—A yarding numbering 183 head of medium quality. The sale opened firm at values on a par with late rates, and closed with a decided advance. Prime ox beef was worth on an average 44s per 100 lb, medium 34s to 38s, prime bullock ranged from £lB to £2l 12s 6d, medium £l4 10s to £l7, light and unfinished sorts from £9 upwards, prime heifers £l3 to £l4 10s, medium £lo to £l2, light and aged from £7 10s upwards. Store Cattle.—A small yarding was offered, the quality of which eyas somewhate indifferent. The demana was not brisk and prices were a shade weaker than those realised at last week’s sale.

Sheep.—A medium yarding numbering 1997 head. Although a number or the pens contained sheep in prime condition, the bulk of the yarding was ot medium quality. Tli edemand at the opening of the sale was slack, but values appreciated as the sale advanued, and closed with prices from la to Is 6d per head higher than last week’s rates. Prime wether mutton made up to 4d per lb. and ewe mutton in the vicinity of 3J-cJ, prime heavyweight wethers realised from 24s to 30s 9d, medium 18s 6d to 235, light and unfinished sorts 15s upwards, extra prime heavyweight ewes realised up to 25s 3d, prime 20s to 23s t medium 15s to 18s 9d, light and aged from 12s 6d up. wards. Lambs.—The few lambs that were offered (123 head) were not of good quality. These sold at prices ranging from 14s 6d to 20s per head, prime lambs being worth 63 d per lb Pigs.—A small yarding of all kinds suitable for killing, realised increased prices. The demand was keen and a, larger number could easily have been disposed of. Best baooners realised from 85d to OJd per lb, and best porkers from 9d to 93 per lb.
