MART REPORTS.

MORTON AND PEARSON. Messrs Morton and Pearson report for last week as follows: The demand for apples has improved especially for coloured varieties. A shipment of Fiji bananas came to hand during the week, and sold readily. Prices realised during the week were:— Apples, Delicious 17s to 18s. Stunners 11s 6d to 13s 6d, for choice, others 9s to 10s, Scarlets 9s to 11s 6d, Cleopatra 8s 6d to 10s, Wn keys 8s to 9s 6d, small and inferior grades realised 3s 6d to 5s 6d. Pears, W. Coles 11s 6d W. Nili 11s 6d, 31. Coles 10s. Sydney navel oranges 21s to 235,, mandarines 23s 6d, bananas 19s 6d, all at per ease. Coconuts to 22s per sack, peanuts 74d per lb, cabbage 5s to 6s per sack, bacon, hams and sides Is per lb. Produce. —Potatoes, white tables 8s to 9s, red 6s to 7s, pig potatoes 3s, all at per sack. Wo have stocks of seed

potatoes of early varieties. Wheat, seconds 'to 265, outs 16s to 17s 6d, swedes 4s Od to ss. carrots 7s 6d to 10s, parsnips 10s, all at per sack, onions 3s per cental. Poultry.—Hens 3s 6d, roosters 4s 6d to 5s 6d, all at per pair. During the week wo held a clearing enlo at “JBellvue,” George Street. There was a good attendance and a full clearance was made at satisfactory prices. There was a full entry at our usual weekly sale, and a large quantity of furniture was disposed of.

THE RIALTO

H. Allclturrli suid Co report. At our usual weekly sale on Friday, w© had a largo entry of poultry and pigs, 26 pigs of various grades being penned. Prices realised were : Poultry. —Hens (heavy) 5s 3d to 10s 3d, others 3s Gd lo os, cockerels (heavy) 5s 3d to 9s 3d, others 2s 6d to ss, roosters 3s to 4s, guinea fowls 6s 6d, ducks 6s to 9s 3d, all at per pair; geeso 6s each. Pigs.—'Weaners 12s tc 265, slips 29s to 39s each. An inferior lino of small weaners realised to 8s 6d. Produce. —Whcfit 15s to 30s, oats to 14s 6d, lucerne meal 12s 6d, poultry mash 80s, swedes 4s 6d to 6s, potatoes 8s to 10s nil at per sack. Fruit. —Apples (dessert) .Newtown. Pippins 14s, Pioneer 11s, Jonathan lie, other varieties to 10s, Wolsleys 9s 6d, all at per case. Eggs.—The supply of South Canterbury Circle eggs has fallen off slightly although consignments are still fairly heavy. Prices remained uncliauged at 2s for first grade (stamped), second grade (unstamped) Is lOd per dozen. _ At our rooms we disposed of a fair quantity of household furniture and effects at satisfactory prices. On Wednesday, July 27, we held a clearing sale on account of Mrs M. Harris at her residence, High Street. There was a largo attendance of buyers, and each lot olfered was readily disposed of at satisfactory prices.

THE GRAND MART.

A. Washer and Co report that there was a good supply of meat consigned to the mart, about 30 sheep being dispensed of at prices from 3d to 5d per lb. A carcase of beef realised from fid to 9d per lb, and a complete clearance of beef and mutton was soon effected. Fish sales were held daily throughout the week, and the supplies were quickly sold. The fell sales will be held, weather permitting, if possible daily, but due notice will be given by _ the auctioneers. Household furniture is in good demand, and a complete clearance was effected in the mart at satisfactory prices. On Saturday last we submitted to auction Mrs John Annand’s property consisting of house of five rooms and 34 perches situate High Street. Bidding commenced at £9OO and rose by bids of £25 to £IOOO, at which price it was passed in under offer to a prospective buyers. Mr W. Barnett’s property consisting of brick bouse of three rooms and 1- acre in Oxford Street was withdrawn from sale in the _ meantime. Small farming property is in good demand, and we have also buyers for four and five-roomed houses within easy distance of town. A BRE.4K-TJP!
