FOOTBALL.

THE WANGANUI MATCH. The Wanganui representative team, twenty-six strong, arrived bv the second express from the north yesterday, and will meet South Canterbury on the Caledonian Grounds to-morrow «t a quarter to three. The crack New Zealand forward Bellis did not como across with the team, but will join up again in tune for the Otago match on Saturday. ' Rugby is booming in the Wanganui district, which is one of the largest football territories in the Dominion, taking in many towns on the central' portion of the Main Trunk line, and mi round numbers the Wanganui Union lias under its jurisdiction three or four times as many players as are controlled by the South Canterbury body. Public interest has been very lively in Rugby affairs in Wanganui, particularly in the matter of the representation of town and country in the teams. A dozen country players are included in the present party, which is physically one of the likeliest looking combinations to visit Tiniaru for a long time. The team is almost wholly comprised of young and vigorous men, with a good sprinkling" of speedy players, and as they just failed to wrest the Ranfurly Shield from Wellington the home team will bo set a hard task to-morrow. Mr J. O'Leary has been appointed refere for to-morrow's rep. game. Bennett', s place in the South Canterbury team will probably \>e filled by S. Cabot. The South Canterbury team and reserves will assemble at the Shamrock Hotel to-morrow at 2 p.m.
