MEETING LAST EVENING. . Tlie monthly meeting of the Temukai l-orougli Council was held :atf> eveniLg. 1 resent: The Mayor (Mr Gumiion;, Councillors Lynch,. Sheen, Trezise, Evans, Burns, and Hancox. Ttie chairman ox tne Standing Committee mentioned that the Council had inspected the Timaru Fire Brigade plant, and nothing further had been done. Councillor Lynch said it was for the brigade to push th e matter forward by taking, steps to form a Fire Board. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote with reference to the appointment of the Temuka Borough Council as a registering authority "under the Motor Regulation Act.—The Town Clerk to take any necessary action. The Gas Company wrote asking,for permission to increase the price of gas. Mr Hamilton, tJu> manager, vaited on the Council and explained that the company asked for leave to increase the present price of 10s per 1000 by 2s 6d, but in the meantime they would not increase the price, but would allow somewhat- less discount.—The Town Clerk, who had made inquiries, stated that the price of gas is 10s iOd in llangiora. and 9s in Waimate. —Mr Hamilton said a better class of coal was now being obtained, and ho could guaiantee better quality and better pressure than of late. —In view of the price charged at Waimate it was decided not to grant the company's request. Mr T. F. Martin, solicitor for the Municipal Association, sent an opinion that the Council could not contribute towards the erection of a bridge 60 chains outside the borough boundary.— The letter to be sent to the Geraidine County Council. The Palmerston North Borough Council wrote recommending a-Saturday half holiday.—The recommendation was endorsed.

The Inspector of Public Health wrote reporting nine cases of nuisances arising from keeping animals on fections and from stable yards.—Notice to be given to owners of proceedings iff he trlon 1 against those neglecting to clean tip: The poun&keeper reported that during the month he had impounded from -within the borough 44 head of stock, and had received £1 17s in foes. He asked for a bonus on his present pay, suid the Council agreed to add" ±l3 a year. The Nelson City Council wrote forwarding copy of resolution urging that the Government should furnish the funds for technical education. —It vaa agreed to support this. "The Department of Labour forwarded copies of an order •amending the drivers' and general labourers' award. Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., wrote enclosing a copy of the Housing Act, 1919. The following transfers were gr< nted: —The trustees of H. Rhodes to J. H Rhodes, B. C. Presland to Mrs Hannah Bremner. Messrs Poultney Bros, were granted a building permit for a dwelling house on king Street. The overseer (Mr E. B. Cooper) reported on the work done by the staff during the month, and his report was adopted. . The Finance Committee reported that receipts for the month totalled £3OB los Id and the accounts for payment £l4l 19s lOd. The bank credit was £173 Is 4d. DOMAIN BOARD. Permission was granted for holding a Mechanics' Institute Fete on December 9. The Domain Fete was fixed for Labour Day. Accounts for £B3 6s 6d were passed for payment. The chairman, .stated that the cost of upkeep was increasing beyond their means, and something must be done. The Sports Association before the war contributed £9O a year, but now only £7O. A deputation was appointed to ask the Geraldine County Council for a donation, and it was decided to ask the sports bodies to increase their fees to a total of £l2O a year. ' CESMETERY BOARD. The members met as the Cemetery Board, and passed accounts for £23 2s 6d.
