Alderman McSweeney, Lord Mayor I of Cork, was court-martiailed, charged with seditious speecli and with having in his possession a secret police code, and also documents tlie publication of which was calculated to cause disaffection in Ireland. McSweeney, looking ill owing to hunger strike, said:—"i am, Lorct Mayor and Chief Magistrate. I declare this Court illegal, and those participating in it liable to arrest under tlie Irish Republican laws." Xur McSweeney .was found guilty, and sentence was deferred. ROADSIDE MURDERS. Received 8.15 p.m.. August 17th. LONDON, August. 16. A motor car returning homeward after sports at Lurgan was fired on at Banfootfierry. Two passengers were killed. SHOT IN THE STREET. Inspector "Wilson, of the Irish Constabulary, was shot dead when leaving I a shop in Templemore, Tipperary.
