"MOTHER HUBBARD". TO-NIGIiT. The mucli-looked-for pantomime "Mother Hubbard" opens in JL'imaru at the Tiieatre Koyal to-nigut, and a return season will be played on Monday next. The joint management-, Messrs J. and N. Tait and .baney and brant, must feel gratified at the success which followed the production in Australia; and again in Wellington and Christehurcli, and to that iirm's credit it may be anticipated that the samo popular approval will greet their pantomime in Timaru. The presentation of "Mother Hubbard" in the capable hands of - the* producer, Barry Lupino, whirls the audience into the thick of a medley of haunting rtntsic strung on a series of exceedingly funny happenings at and awlay from the Hubbard .home. The old nursery rhyme had formed a happy foundation for a stage performance brimful of clever situations anad ingenious novelties, A blaze of colour pageants and tableaux follow each other in hustling succession, and the kaleidoscopic effects are rich and bewildering to the eye. The fairy story is embroidered with melody and action into a "wonderfully effective creation of stagecraft, and the production l 'will l>e found not only entertaining but impressive. _ A lengthy list of carefully chosen principals, headed by ~ Bairry 1/upino himself as Dame Hubbard, and Jack Cannot as Pa Hubbard, embraces Moon and Morris, remarkable, simultaneous step-dancers; Elsie Parlies, detiseuse; Bfrt Nicbolsinn, the pocket comedian; Ethel Walker, ihe fairy queen; Dorothy Leigh, ririncinnl boy; Daisy Yates, principal girl; Colin Crane©, pirate, king; Gertie Latch ford, soubrette; Les Ooney, specialty comedian; and Kelso Henderson, novelty dancer. A full pantomime orchestra is under the baton of Mr Robert Keers.
