HOUSING PROBLEM.

Sir, —Considering tho house shortage in 'J'imaru at present, would some Councillor ask his Worship the Mayor what the Council are doing iowardrf solving tho difficulty" _ If rumour is correct, they are retarding it by using material that should be diverted to house building, namely cement. Would hia Worship kindly inform the public what influence was used to secure same. According to the Board of Trade it haa got to be urgent waterworks, etc., to get them fourth on the list." If so, why should the erection of houses he stopped because the Council want to put iu a new engine bed;' «Jobs in Timaru hare been at a standstill -for* weeks, and during that time the Coun cil. according to rumour, has received at least one truck of cement. I would like to hear the rumour denied, or an explanation given.—l am, etc.,
