KILLED BY FALLINGSPARy (Per Press Association). . . WELLINGTON; May-29. ■ A fatality occurred -on the water front this afternoon. The after mast of the steamer Baden Powell snapped about fifteen feet from the deck, and struck a man named Lepin, who was. killed instantly. It appears that Lepin moved away in order to avoid the falling derrick hut in doing so_ stepped, in the wrong direction. Lepin > was about 26 years of age, a member of the Waterside Workers' Union and the Seamen's Union. A BOY DROWNED. —i A hoy named David William McCabe, aged 2 years and 11 months, was drowned yesterday afternoon, in a pond at the hack of his father's residence. It was stated that the child was playing in the hack yard and_ apparently crawled -through a hole in the hack: fence and fell into the pond. STRUCK BY A TRAIN. CHRISTCHURCH, May 29. Patrick GreKorv was struck by a train at the Waltham -Road crossing last night, and died shortly after admission to the hospital. CAR CAPSIZED. TWO PEOPLE KILLED. OAMARU, May 29. A fatal motor smash occurred on the main road about two miles north of Oamaru, just after dusk this evening. Hugh Glass, licensee of the Pembroke Hotel in the Otago Lakes district, accompaned by his wife and young daughter, were coming into town by motor via Lindis Pass. In the darkness the car apparently missed a narrow bridge over a shallow creek and dropped intotbe shallow depression aiid the car capsized. Details of. the accident are; meagre. Mrs Gkss was killed, her neck being broken. Her four-year-old daughter was apparently suffocated by being held down under the car. Both iweve dead when the accident was discovered. Mr Glass, whose people reside in _ Oa.maru, is in, hospital seriously injured.
