SOLDIERS RETURNED.

PAPAROA ARRIVES. (Per Press ~ Association). WELLINGTON, May ,24. The Paparoa with 600 returned men on board arrived at 6 a.m. to-day. She was declared a clean ship, and berthed at 11 o'clock. Disembarkation occupied ten minutes only. TIMARTJ CONTINGENT. A special droop train reaehed ■• Tiinar'u about 2:45 p.m. yesterday conveying southern men who had arrived at Wellington on Saturday by the Paparoa. As there was no general knowledge of the time the train, was due to. arrive there was a comparatively small gathering of the public at the railway station. A good many, supposing the hour of arrival was to tie 8 p.m., arrived at the station when the train had gone and the reception was over. .. . .

The Mayor (Mr. Raymond"* being absent at 'Wellington, the Deputy Mayor (Mr Sealey) officially welcomed the arrivals wishing them in a brief address a success in their future equal to their success at tha war front. 3fr Sealey called for cheers for the . returned men and these were cordially given.
