A SHIRKER'S GRAZING RUN.

A TRANSFER INADVERTENTLY GRANTED.

A few weeks ago (says the "Otago Daily Times") correspondence reached lis from more; than one source .representing that the ptagOrLahd-Board had sanctioned the transfer of a small grazing ruuviivthe Macraes district from a man who was described as a military deserter 'to his brother , We submitted thsse l-epresentations to tlh.fr officials'of the board, by whom inquiries respecting the matter were thereupon instituted, the formar consent to tile transfer being withheld in the meantime, and an application to have the transaction completed;,being •not' entertained.

■ As ■' a result; of the inquiries which have been made, it now appears certain that the transferror is a military deserter, as was alleged by our correspondents,, information to this efTect having been supplied to the head offioa of the Lands Department by the "defence authorities. .No dtfobt,': when the Land Board approved the; transfer in the first -3isjbatii?e, it acted in. good faith, as the .necessary papers' were signed by the ..deserter's attorney.! and to all appeaiaces were in proper order.
