EXPEDITIONARY AND PERMANENT. NEW SCALE OF PAY AND ALLOWANCES. . Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 29. New rates of pay and allowances for the New Zealand Expeditionary Force* (foreign and home service) and the New Zealand permanent forces, have been. finally approved and will be promulgated shortly through General Orders. The new rates of Day far officers on foreign service will come into, force as from .April 1, 1918, and are now being paid, together with arrears due. The new rates are:— Colonel, single, £750; married, £BOS. Lieut-Colonel, £615 and £670., Major, £475 and £530. Captnin, £365. and' £420. . L-eutenant, £265 and £320. Second-Lieutenant, £265 and £320 These include the 3s per diem formerly paid as separation allowance. . Medical, dental and veterinary officers are entitled to £lB2 per annum, in addition to the pay of the rank. If any officer, warrant officer, or noncommissioned officer; is wounded or inrued while holding temporary rank, pay may continue to be made at the rate appropriate to the temporary instead of the permanent rank until he rejoins his unit or is discharged, in consequence of medical unfitness caused by such wound or injury. This, provision shall have .effect as from April 25, 1915 (the date of the Gallipoli landing).-

The rates of pay for nurses appointed to the N.Z.E.F. are increased as follow from April 1, 1918 :r-Matron 13s per diem, charge sister lis, sister 10s, staff nurses 7s lOd. Masseuses appointed to N.Z.E.F. and enrolled in the New Zealand Aimy .Nursing Service, will for purposes, of pay be treated as nurses according to rank, and receive s'milar allowances.

The field allowance payable to members of the N.Z.E.F. on service abroad, for general officer commanding, briga-dier-general, ' colonel, lient-colonel, major, captain, lieutenant, 2nd lieuten 7 ant, is 6s per diem. Camp allowance (in New Zealand) for these officers xs 4s per diem. Members of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service are to be paid the same field and camp allowances as , members of the N.Z.E.F. When they are. not .provided abroad with free quarters they 'shall receive an issue of 2s per diem in lieu thereof,' and_ when not drawing free rations an additional 2s per diem. These issues are" in addition to the field allowance.

Where applicable, the rates of travelling allowances (including porterage) for all ranks in.the N.Z.E.F. are:— General Officer Commanding £1 5s per day, •brigadier-general £1 Is, colonel 15s, lientenant-colonel 15s, major 12s 6d, captain 12s 6d. lieutents 12s Gd, n.c.o.'s above sergeants lis, sergeants and under 10s. For travelling allowances, .matron s-in-chietf or matrons of the N.ZIA.N.S. are entitled to 15s per iday, and chartre sisters, .sisters or staff nurses.to 12s 6d per day. Proficiency pay of Is a day is given to gunners and drivers, and good conduct pay, rising from 3rd to Ist 6d per day, for men with from six months to 20 years' service.
