COMMERCIAL.
THE LOCAL MARKETS. Thero is nothing new to report in wheat. Xlicro is a fair demand for seed Tuscan, but it is nothing compared to the demand at this time last year. It is reported that South Canterbury millers are to receive a jjortion of the Australian wheat which was landed recently at Dunedin. Tho oat market is if anything even firmer than it was last week, but values concern local merchants very little, as tho supnly is almost negligible. An odd lino of Ciartous changes hands at 5s on trucks, country stations. There is an absence of offerings oi other descriptions-
Thero is an abnormal demand for ■oat slieaf chaff for shipment, but tho space position is no Letter than laat week. Hay has been in rather better demand, at £-1 per toil, baled, at country stations.
Tho demand for potatoes continues good, and it is expected that a shipment now being made from Timaru to Auckland will be the last big shipment to leave here this soason. as supplies are very low. "Large quantities of Aucktralian potatoes are expected in Auckland in two weeks time, hut these can hardlv affect values here, as thero are liardlv sufficient offerings to copo with coastal -orders. To-dav's values are £lO nor lou, sacks included.
