SCHOOL COMMITTEES
TEMUKA D.H.S. A meeting of the Temuka District! High School Committee was held on. Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs EB. Cooper (chairman), P. A. Acheson, "W. Purdom. G. Levens, T. Sanders, J. Burns, G. Higginbotiom, 1/. G- Scrimshaw, and M. -Hamilton (secretazy). • The chairman feelingly referred to the suffered by Mr and Mrs G. Phil- • lips, in the loss of their son. Sergeani Bnlf Phillips, who was a pupil of the school, who died in hospital in England. A motion of sympathy was passed witli Mr and Mrs Phillips. Miss A. Simpson -wrote resigning her position as fifth assistant, as sue bad l>een appointed assistant in iho secondary department. The Education Board wrote that £ll' had been placed to the credit of the * school, being refund of voluntary contributions. The Board also wrote thai the assistant architect win inspect anil report on the application for repairs to the headmaster's residence. Also tha£ they would have 310 objections tothecommittce arranging for the Australian Students occupying the building in holiday time, the building to bs insnred against fire. The committee decided to insure the building for £2AOO. The Board also wrote that Inspectors ~ Brock arid Owen will examine the school on 10th September. The headmaster reported that tKa attendance of the pupils of the school had suffered from rough and wet weather during the iiarter. Tho roll number is at present 403 (primaiy 368, secondary 37), and tfie average attendance to date was 356 (primary 321, secondaty 3d). It was decided to close the school for tho term holidays from 13t« September for a fortnight.
Messrs Sanders and Puxdom reported as visitors thai cvervthinjr was in good order. Messrs Higginbottom and "Lerens were appointed visitors for tte coming month.
