INCREASED AREAS IN CROPS. EFFECT ON MANUFACTURES. (Renter's Telegrams.) Received 5.15 p.m., August Bth. LONDON, August 7In the House of Commons Mr Prothero, Minister of Agriculture, stated that a million acres had been added to the land under corn and potatoes. Assuming that 600,000 acres were sown with essential grains, sufficient tonnage would be freed to bring to Britain the entire supply of last year's American cotton. This meant security for manufacturing materials of a value of thirty millions annually and six or seven millions for operatives' wages. ALLIED CONFERENCE. MR LLOYD GEORGE PRESIDES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Mr Lloyd George presided at the Allies' Conference, which included MM. Ribot and Painleve. THE CORN BILL. In the House of Commons the Corn Bill was read a third time.
