SENSATIONAL RAID.
VILLA'S. DRAMATIC VENTURE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable-Assn.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 21. General Bell's official report upon Villa's raid 011 Chihuahua shows that Villa, on September 15th, sent a letter to Governor Trevino stating that ho woukl shake hands with him in Chihuahua, on tho 16th. He asked him to prepare a suitable) reception, as he was hungry. Villa, disguised, made a dramatic appearance at the Governor's palace on the 10th. Ho rail to the balcony, and shouted to the crowd, "Viva Mexico; I am your brother. I will give you liberty." Pie then disappeared, but subsequently secured possession of the penitentiary, Governor's residence, and the Federal buildings with a, force of a few hundred men. He held them for several hours, despite tho attacks of the O'arranzista garrison of GOOO men. Villa liberated 200 prisoners, and carried away sixteen automobilo loads ot arms and ammunition imder an escort of deserting Carranzistas. He lelt the city with an additional 1000 recruits, and retired leisurely, and practically unmolested. Governor Trevino and his officers were banquetting when they were attacked. Trevino started for the Governor's palace, but his staff deserted, him. lhe officials in Washington consider that the Mexican-American. Conference, uhich is now sitting, cannot ignore these grave developments.
