BRITISH COAL STRIKE.
TROUBLE IN SOUTH WALES.
A GRAVE POSITION

LONDON, August 28.
Mr Runeiman consented to meet a South 'Wales deputation to-morrow. A mass meeting of the western Monmouthshire strikers resolved not to resume work until all their original demands had been conceded.
The "Daily Telegraph" states that ■the South Wales position is grave. Knowing that the coal miners are stubborn their leaders sent a deputation to London with the intention of throwing the whole responsibility on Mr Runeiman if the worst should happen. The leaders realise the seriousness of the crisis and the imminence of a general strike., and are endeavouring to persuade the miners to continue at least until the Miners' General Conference, which is fixed for Tuesday. The miners take the attitude that if Mr Lloyd George delivered the goods lie promised at Cardiff they would do their part.
RAILWAYMEN WANT ADVANCES
Railwaymen's unions are urging the executive to demand an all-round advance of five shillings weekly.
CONFERENCE WITH MINISTERS
Received 4.10 p.m., August 29th
Mr Lloyd George and Mr Runciman held a private conference with the South Wales miners and their leaders, and have asked the coal-owners to meet the Ministers on Monday.
THOUSANDS IDLE.
Thirteen thousand are idle in West Monmouthshire.

TAUNTS FOR, BRITISH TROOPS j Received 3.35 p.m., August 2&th. ! PARIS, August 28. ! A British officer states that the Germans, hearing of the coal Btrike in Britain, displayed boards in the trenches inscribed: "England and her navy are coalless. Germany is a step nearer victory. The coal strike is spreading."

The Charleroi district miners at Chatelineaux were inarched in a procession escorted by Germans with fixed I kayoneta.
