PERSONAL ITEMS.
A son of Judge Dennistoun is a ! member of the second N.Z. Expeditionary Force now in camp. On Tuesday evening, the land agents of Timaru met at the office of Messrs Howden and Innes-Jones to bid goodbye to Mr Ben. Sparrow, who has volunteered, for the front. Mr R. N. Hawkes, who presided, spoke of the energy and uprightness that bad characterised Mr Sparrow's career during the seven years he had carried on business as a land agent in Timaru, and wished Mm all success and a safe return. Mr W. Angland, in a few well chosen remarks, then presented Mr Sparrow with a gold-mounted fountain peri. After good [wishes had been expressed by all present, Mr Sparrow responded amid hearty applause. He thanked all for their cordial send-off, and assured them that he hoped to perform his duty in a fearless and upright manner, so that he might not be ashamed to meet them all again in Timaru some day, where, if he returned safely, he intended to start again as a land agent. Other toasts honoured were.:—"Success to the Allies," . and "The Legal Profession," responded to by Mr Willie Raymond; who was present by invitation.
