NEW AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTOR.
FOR SOUTH CANTERBURY. Mr John Moodie, late agricultural instructor to the Southland Education Board, left by this afternoon's express for Timaru " (says the "Sotithland Times" of Sept. 1), where he has received a similar appointment under the South Canterbury Education Board. When acceptiug Mr Hoodie's resignation the Southland Board passed a resolution expressing its high appreciation of his valuab'e services in inaugurating and organising school garden work in this district, and its regret at losing him from its staff. Board members stated that they would find a difficulty in filling Mr Hoodie's place, and that had they known in time they would have made an effort to retain his services. " During his two and a half years' work here Mr Hoodie had visited frequently all parts of the district, has almost invariably succeeded in securing the support and co-operation of school committees in his work, and his lectures and practical demonstrations to farmers and others have been highly valued. Mr Moodie was also instructor in practical work to the technical college agricultural class, and in this connection established experimental and demonstration plots at Gladstone, where he has done work that- has received unstinted praise. In parting with Mr Moodie, the Edu-, cat ; on office staff presented him, with a' silver-plated safety razor, and wished him every success in his new sphere of activity. The members of his college agricultural classes also presented him with a gold sovereign case as a memento of their goodwill towards him and expressed their sorrow at losing so enthusiastic a teacher.
