TEMUKA ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly 'meeting of the Temuka. Read Board was held yesterday- Present —Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), J. J. Ellis. G. W- Armitage, G. McCullough and D. Grant. The Public Trustee wrote with regard , to the Hobson bequest, stating that the Public Trustee's duty was to receive and hold the nett rents and deal with, them in accordance with the wishes of . the local bodies affected, and as he thought proper, having regard to the stipulation that some charitable and public object must be advanced thereby. Mr Armitage said that the moneys were according to the will to be distributed not as the Public Turstee thought proper but as the Board thought proper. Other members agreed with this new. The Public Works Department forwarded a schedule showing unauthorised balance on votes for road and bridge works, the expenditure of which it waa proposed to entrust to the Board. The balances were: —Orari river bridge (Bad- • hams Road) £250. Upper Grari river protective works £2OO i The Public Works Department wrote stating that it was fcndeavouring to arrange for a survey of the of the proposed Orari river bridge- : :»• The overt-eer reported that the day- : men had been engaged during the ; month, in carting sliinpde, breaking down stones, repairing fords, cleaning watertables, .filling ruts, repairing culverts, laying pipes, cutting willows and other t odd jobs. The reoecnt floods had scoured a hols in the Temuka river at the lower ford on the Waitohi road.
