WELLINGTON WHARE MEN.
PREPARING SELECT LIST.

WELLINGTON, Feb. 26. On Tuesday evening a conference was hevd by representatives of the shipowners, labour foremen and stevedores, to discuss certain private resolutions passed by the shipowners, dealing with the control of the wharf work and the question of preference. There was an attendance of about sixty, and Mr 11. Fletcher, ehfiirman of the Harbour Board, presided. _ After lengthy discussion it was decided t-o recommend the secretary of the wharf labourers' union to prepare a revised list of men at present working on the wharves., who joined the union on or prior to Sth December. \ ARJ3TTRATIONIST COMPLAINT. A deiputation from the executive of the Arbitration Union of Wharf Lab- : ourers waited on' the Harbour Board to-day and protested that Arbitration men who joined the union during the strike were not receiving the treatment they should in accordance with the resolution passed by the Board. They quoted figures showing that many exstrikers were earning £3 to £4 a week, while Arbitrationists could not get a pound. Captain Munro, chief wharfinger, informed the Boaifd. that, he had endeavoured to carry out the Board's resolution, and had dealt with cases of. friction as soon as he heard of them. The chairman pointed out that the Board was employing more men, but they were taking longer to do the work than before the strike. After a long discussion the Board decided that the secretary be -authorised to furnish the union executive with copies of pa,y sheets signed by him as executive officer of the Board.
