♦ A BENEFACTOR THANKED. On Wednesday evening between, three and four hundred -residents of [ St. Andrews met together at an ini vitation social in the Pubiio Hall, and I a most enjoyable evening was spent. I Among the guests were i)r. and Mrs ! Pitts of Waimato, and Dr. 6. Huntley Wood, the resident doctor of the district. During the evening a presentation was made to the Rev. L. Oarsiey Brady, who for many years had gratuitouafo done duty as a medical man. Mr K. N. Hawkes, who made the presentation, spoke of the mauv va'mabie services which Mr Brady had rendered, and said that it was only right that so many should have assembled to do honour to one who had done so much for them. On behalf | of tlhe residents of the .district he 1 asked Mr Brady to accept an illuminated address bearing the following inscription :

'To the Rev. L. CarsSey Bradv, Reverend arid dear sir,—We the residents of the St. Andrews district desire to express to you our grateful thanks for the good work yon have done during the last thirty years in attending to the sick ana wounded. Your medical skill has been of inestimable service, and has been willingly given to all without distinction of class or creed. _ Now that a medical man is settled in the district, your labours will be considerably lightened, and we trust that you will enjoy many more years of health and prosperity in the district where your good works have endeared, you to all." The address is a very beautiful one and reflects great credit on its designer—Mr Griffiths of Timaru. In addition to the address Mr Brady was asked to accept a- gold sovereign case, containing a number of sovereigns. Messrs Geo. Lyall, P. J. O'Leary, Jas. Fraser, anij B. Gifford endorsed the remarks of Mr Hawkes as to the) great amount of good done by the Rev. Mr Brady. Dr G. Huntley Wood, who was greeted with loud applause, said that he felt it incumbent upon (him to sincerely thank: Mr Brady for the kindness shown to himself and his sister during the short time they had been resident at St. Andrews.

Mr Bradv thanked all for their good' wishes. He hoped he had been of some little service to them during the thirty-one years he had lived among them, tout whatever ho had done hr.d been repaid many times over by tile kindness which he had met -with from all sections of the community. He had been extremely happy in" labouring amongst them, and although he had received many temuting. offers from other parishes 'his only wish, was to end his days among his many friends in the St. Andrews district.

The singing of "He's .a jolly good fellow" followed by three "hearty cheers, concluded this part of the ceremonv. .

Refreshments were then handed round, and a couple of hours were pleasantly spent in music and singing. Letters of apology for unavoidable absence were received from Messrs C. H. Besley, Jas. Henderson, D. Sidev, H. Bowron, R. Stewart and l A. Goodall.
