Sir Joseph Ward is oxpectod to reach Wellington on August 15th. Mr Fisher and Mr Batchelor return from London by way of Siberia. Tho members of Williamson's " The Whip" Company were passengers by the first express north yesterday. Mr and Mrs E. H. Buckingham and family, of Auckland, are spending a short holiday with Mr Buckingham's parents, Mr and Mrs D. B. Buckingham, oi Waimuto. Mr John Mill, woll-kiv>wu in Port Chalmers and Timaru, and Mr B. Hatch, an ex-Mayor of Invercargill and prominent in southern commercial circles, passed south by yesterday's second express. The acting-Premier, Sir James Carroll, will pay a visit to Timaru on Thursday next. Ho will arrivo here from Dunodin, and will spend Thursday night in Timaru. Ho spoke at invercargill last night, will speak at Goro this evening, and Jt Dunedin on Tuesday. The Rev. C. E. Bceeroft, formorly of Timaru, has been a]>pointed by the president of tho Australasian Methodist Conference to attend tho Methodist Ecumenical Conference which is to meet in Toronto next October. Mr Bceeroft has been appointed as substitute for an Australian representative who is unablo to make the journey. The other New Zealand representatives will bo the Rev. L. Hudson and Mr Thomas Allen.
