WAIHI'S GOOD NAME.
DEFENDED BY RESOLUTION. Per Press Association. WAIHI ' May 31. During a concert last nignt, attended by 1200 residents,; tho Mayor referred to a statement by Mr Poole M.P., at a no-License rally in Inv-ercargill, that •at one timo it Was unsafe for women to walk'the streets of Waihi at night. The Mayor emphatically denied tho allegation and moved—"That th.'e meeting enter an emphatic protest against Mr Poole's- unjustifiable remarks." Tliis was carried unanimously amid great applausa. W. Moron, who bravely rescued a man who was being carried to sea at Bow-entown Heads at Christmas, and who was awarded the Humane Society's gold medal, was presented by ■ the Mayor, on behalf of the, public of Waihi ■with a gold medal, and clasp. Mr M.-ran kept his companion above ov r two hours and they were evea'aally > hauled ashore in an exhausted condition. A month ago Mr Moron was a rendered totally blind by nn <■-* plosion in a mine, and tne concert was given in hie aid
