WAIMATE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SUMMER SHOW,

Tli© annual summer show of tli© Wjumate Horticultural Society was held in the Brilished yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr Hassall, apologised tor the Mayor's unavoidable absence, and before calling on Sir W. J. Steward to open the Show thanked the judges —Messrs Allen and Knowles for coming from TiTrta.ru; also Mr F. Langdon, of Timaru, for a fine stand of begonias sent for exhibition; also the Brass and Pipe Bands,- and Mr J. Black for gramaphone selections. The rather diminished entries at the show were accounted for by the unfavourable season, the enthusiasm of members being as great as ever. Sir W. J. Steward then opened the show. Special prizes were won as follows -.—Gardeners cut flowers (Sutton, and Sons special) E. Hnssall; do. most points vegetables (Yates and Co.'s special) H. Voss; amateurs cut dowers (Sutton and Sons special) W. H. Hargreaves; do. most points fruit (Mr T. Walker's special) E. Wilce; do. most points vegetables (Yates and Co.'s special) H. Voss.
