Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 12. An inquest was held ats.Mosgjel today on the body of Samuel Tibbes, aged 26, who was fatally injured yesterday. The evidence showed that while deceased was engaged in shunting his, lxiqt must have got caught'in the points,- and he was unable to release it, with the result tfiat eight waggons went over him, cutting off a leg and an arm. It was pointed out that if the deceased had been wearing-elastic-side boots he might have been able to release his foot. The Coroner said that lie would make a recommendation to the Department as to the advisability cf providing elastic-side boots for shunters. A verdict of accidental death, was returned. SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 12. A motor car driven by A. H. Honnor, of New Plymouth, a coach builder, turned turtle at the foot of- a steep part of a country road, near Waitara this afternoon, and some of the party wero badiy injured. There were with him Mrs Honnor and their little son, Mrs T. W. Fisher, wife of Mr Fisher, UnderSecretary for Native Affairs, Wellington, Miss Fisher, and Miss Butler (Mrs Honnor's sister). The account of an eye-witness states that an explosion occurred, as though a tyre-tube had burst.. The car skidded", the back wheel collapsed, and tho car capsized. ■ Mrs Fisher sustained a fracture of the base of the skull, and Mr Honnor was also seriously hurt, and both rendered unconscious. Miss' Fisher and the bov were unhurt, and Miss Butler only slightly. At 11 p.m. there was no change in tho condition a? the two patients. DEATH UNDER WATER. At th» inauest on the body of George Todd who lost b's life while examining the sunken Rise and Shine dredge, the medical evidence was that the valves of Todd's heart were affected, and that lie died from hairt disease. A verdict of denth from natural causes was returned.
