ANOTHER PROSPEROUS YEAR•The umdal return showing the tr'do and revenue, etc., of the port of Timaru for the year ending December 31 was issued yesterday, and as usual it has been weli goi up by the secretary (Mr W. The imports increased from 78.377 tons in 1909 to 84,786 tons In 1910. The value of the oversea imports and exports was £1,600,388 (another record) as against £1,485,338 in Jfi'9. This is for foreign and inter-oolorual only. No records are made of ibe value of coastal trade by the ti stoms, but it is put down approximately at threequarters of a million pounds*, which sum has to be added to the above figures. The total net registered tonnage far the year was 440,937 as against 477,561 in 1909.

As regards exports, though there were 183,951 sacks of oats less sent away in 1910 than in 1909, the exports ran up to 87,536 tons as against 94,787 in 1909. The valuations in. the harbour rating district have increased from £io,§20.534 in 1909 to £10,500,468 m 1910. The harbour rate last year produced £8203- aa compared with 1306& in 1909.
