A nuniber of picnic parties were out on Monday in the parks and bush, and the town, both, on Monday and Tuesday, was lonely. , , The.. Studholme Mounted this year held their annual camp in Knotfcrigly Park. There was' a rn-jsosr.'ff over 70 and a. good deal' of useful .work was done. The instructors wero Sergeant Majors -Clements and Wood. liieut.-Col. Hawkins inspected the camp on 'Friday night. The corps paraded the town on..' Saturday, held a church parade on Sunday morning, and in the 1 afternoon a. large number of townsP'ople visited the camp, which Irci.> up on -Tuesday morning. The usual canip'sports were held at tho canip on Monday afternoon when a good a.fternoon's sport was provided. • Despatch riding, jumping flat races, Lloyd Lindsay, lead and trot, cutting the- lemon, sword and scion, wrestling, and best kept tent, (Corpt. Adanis 1, Corpl. Hay 2), made up the competitions, which were keenly "contested,. > . On Sunday night, the Waimate Orchestra, conducted by tho R?y. Father Aubry, provided a very enjoyable musical programme at tie Pubfic Hospital. Afterwards Miss Sinclair, the leader,, (who is leaving for Dunedin), was presented with a gold mounted fountain pen. The Rev. Father Aubry in making the presentation, referred to the ever willing assistance l-enderod to' any deserving object by Miss Sinclair and her violin. Mpssi'b A. J. Cox and E. J. Atwill also referred to Miss Sinclair's work in connection with musical matters, and 1 regret was expressed at .losing the servfes of one wlioso place'would 1)3 very hard to fill. Dr Barclay responded on behalf of Miss Sinclair.
